Wildfire smoke

I've had pretty good production from my pickle and cucumber plants up until last week. Things are still healthy though.

I'm thinking the smoke has put off pollinators, we've certainly noticed a lack of Japanese beetles since then.

Anyone else notice this?

I’ve noticed way less here don’t have smoke but rain.

Sunny days some but not like in the past.

We had poor air quality advisory for days (not sure if it's still in effect) due to the Canada fire, I did notice a great decline in bees and butterfly, but unfortunately those Japanese beetles didn't seem to mind at all

Hummingbirds seem to be coming back and today I found a new bug on my zucchini
I've never seen this bug before, it looks like some kind of moth...anyone knows if it eats veggies?

Yep, that was our condition for several days, could clearly see the smoke and one day it had visibility down to a mile or so.

The fact that the beetles were gone was the clincher that the rest of the bugs were gone too.

I wasn't able to squash the eggs, they rolled in cracks between leaves, I can't get to them without damaging the plant

I've always found it better to lose a bit of a leaf if it means I get the bad guys... a little flat stone on one side and another on the other side and squeeze together ...
Now there is a new tool for someone to make some money on!

If I would've known how hard to squeeze those suckers are, I would've cut the leaf, I had no idea they would roll off.
I'm pretty sure most fell on the dirt, would those still harm the plant?

Not if you put your foot down so to speak.

Very less likely to cause damage on the soil as it is so hard for them to feed off the plant
