Where are the wasps?

[On the Moors]

The back of our house faces south and opens onto a woodland/wildlife garden with a bog garden and cascade. The front garden is similar and there are fences covered in ivy. The main drawback is insects and, in particular, wasps. The conservatory is also at the back and we are usually plagued by the little bu88ers. Sometimes we have had to get a pest controller out to deal with their nests. I think that this year I have seen about three wasps in total. Is this just as a result of the hot weather. Part of the rear garden which our gardener calls an 'insect paradise' :

Your place looks and sounds amazing! ...as for the wasps, I was asking myself the same questions about the bees this year, but we did/do have bad air quality so there is a chance that's why bees are absent

Interesting that wasps are down here this year also...but it is always hot here so that doesn't seem causative. Bees abound, butterflies everywhere... but few wasps.

I don't miss the wasps! ...but I do miss my bees

Wasps make nests and then winter comes and the wasps die. The nest is never used again. Information from my pest controller who turned up to remove a nest in the late Autumn and felt guilty about taking his fee (in cash of course) as they had all died.

Not all of them die. The newly fertilized young queens find suitable places to hibernate over the winter and start brand new nests in the spring. They have a good thing going but the males not so much.
