And what is "go to seed"? I guess I should google and do some reading up on the cacti.

The raw juice is a violent purgative

It's ok fermented but gives you a hell of a hangover.

English Elderberries are used in making Port :)
Out of curiosity. When you ferment them are you boiling them first to kill the natural yeasts? If not that might be why youre getting bad hangovers. The natural yeasts tend to produce a lot of cogners which give off flavors and are bad for people that are prone to hangovers.

Try boiling them for ten minutes or so after you mash them, or atleast add some campden tablets 24 to 48 hours before you pitch your yeast (Id reccomend EC-1118) then add more campden before you bottle.

Foxglove Beardtongue is looking good. The white color really looks great around my native yellow and blue flowers, yellow being Lanceleaf Tickseed in the background...

...and blue being Spiderwort.

My garden has gained a lot of color over the past week, and that trend will continue through September. It's an exciting time of year in my native garden!

Jb what conditions does the spiderwort like? I love it every time you post it.

Full sun to part shade. Wet, medium, or dry soil. I've got them in my very dry, never-watered garden as well as in my bog.

Indian Pink (Spigelia marilandica) bloomed today! It's a natural hummingbird feeder. Not native to Wisconsin, but native to quite a few states. I'm interested to see if it survives my winters. Hopefully it will. Shockingly bright red flowers that practically glow, with yellow petals.
