Hi,

Thanks Logan; I'm delighted with our new meadow but need to do a bit of research as to what I need to do when everything has finished flowering; there's an awful lot of growth. :)

I can add a thread later asking for advice.

I don't want to bring tears to your eyes zigs but I'm rained off. I've been out hedge trimming and weeding but Blackie has now joined in. :muted:

Looks like an afternoon in the workshop; whoopee.

Kind regards, Colin.

You could try the RHS website, they do a bit about meadows. :)

Hi,

Many thanks Logan for your useful suggestion; yes I'll have a look. :) (y)

I'm forever pestered by my personal black cloud Blackie; yesterday morning I had been trimming hedges and was bagging the debris when Blackie joined in putting down a sudden burst of rain so once again I returned indoors wet; once indoors Blackie was happy and quit.

Last Saturday morning Blackie accompanied me 40 miles to Rufforth Auto Jumble; reaching Rufforth village Blackie must have run out of water.

Yesterday 7 pm I said to Bron I'll just pop into the workshop to check a petrol tank repair I had made to ensure it was safe and also double check the car is locked; it took only about four paces from our back door when Blackie appeared in anger putting a sudden burst of rain down; by the time I returned I was wet again; I'm fed up of Blackie tormenting me like this and although it sounds funny it isn't to be on the receiving end. At the supermarket this morning I mentioned last nights downpour to Christine the checkout operator; Christine lives in the next village and she told me it's not rained for days there; I go on and moan about Blackie but I'm sick of his companionship; his sister Gale is equally as bad always with a prevailing breeze up the valley unless she's in a bad mood trying to remove our bungalow from the valley side; with bad neighbours and bad climate why still live here? It's our home and we refuse to be driven out.

Today is forecast sunny spells; does this mean between rain showers?

Kind regards, Colin.

Colin I feel sorry for you, but where you live you're bound to get worse weather than us down here. But it's strange how Blackie knows when you're going out. Perhaps decide to go out and then wait a few minutes.

Yesterday early evening i was trying to water the blueberries, they have to be done because i cover them so the black birds don't eat the fruit but it was drizzling when i was doing it. Then i was trying to water the polyanthus and it was still doing it, but I'm glad that i did because it wasn't much rain.

Hi,

Thanks logan; Bron and I could afford to move but it's taken us the last 33 years to get our bungalow and gardens as we want them; moving would solve lots of problems; we could buy a detached bungalow on a level site but would it be subject to flooding; wherever we were to live there would be both good and bad neighbours; it would be wonderful not needing one leg longer than the other just to stand upright whilst outside; my workshop is directly under the bungalow and when it's pouring with rain or snowing it seems to get further away; Blackie and Gale would probably follow us given our luck; I don't mind rain but I do mind the amount we get; sometimes Blackie just puts a shower down but at the most inopportune times when I want to do something outside; exterior painting is a nightmare. I know I often sound to be moaning and I am but if only something would go our way for a change. I've just pressure washed our driveway and it's very warm with sunny intervals but looking higher up the valley it's Blackie hovering again; I've not received a soaking today so I'm going to jump into the bath. I think its time I tormented Blackie a bit by as you say change my timing a bit; when I want to work at the keyboard put my workshop
clothes on and pop outside to let Blackie see me then come back indoors and laugh. What a strange way to be retired constantly pestered by my own cloud; it's not rained so far today but I'm not holding my breath; we can drive three miles from home in any direction and the weather changes for the better. My chum who lives in Essex suggests I just work around it?

Last year we enjoyed an extended summer the first for many a long year; I can understand the frustration of those who have to water their plants but even watering plants here is a waste of time; I tried watering cans which flattened me carrying them up the mountain; the water just runs off towards the bottom of the valley; using an hose pipe is even worse; the water run off cuts narrow trenches into the soil eroding the bit of soil still remaining; I've planted lots of ground cover so hopefully once these establish I can relax a bit.

Blackie also gets to me when I'm working indoors; above is a picture taken midsummer about four years ago when I was giving our front room a comprehensive makeover; no not at night this in the middle of the afternoon needing a floodlight. On the rare occasion we have a dry; warm calm day it's wonderful living here; it's dull and overcast as I type. I should be used to it by now but it doesn't stop me moaning. (y)

I hope you managed to complete your watering yesterday evening.

Colin I can understand why you don't want to move and that's fine.
Perhaps it's the hills that make Blackie and gale stay around, that's why it always rains in Wales.

Yes thanks i finished my watering yesterday and did the same tonight, not getting any rain for another week. We got 5 water butts and on the 4th one now for the blueberries. Last year had to start using tap water and that's on a meter, but we still save money having that.
Have a good evening.

Hi,

Thanks Sheal for your good wishes. Yes the weather behaves the way it does because we live so near The Pennines making it very unpredictable; it can be glorious sunshine then a minute later there can be a cloudburst; it's unlikely Bron and I will ever move because in spite of the problems we love living here.

Thanks also Sheal for mentioning Gardeners World meadow hour; Bron and I watched the full episode; it was a very interesting program but I think it missed its intention because I doubt after watching it anyone would dash out to create a meadow of their own; I thought the idea behind the program to be to encourage those of us who don't own 60 acres of ground just owning a garden to create our own small meadow? Near the end the elderly gentleman planting his 60 acres with just cowslip seemed rather strange; credit to him he was doing as he liked after all it was his own land.

What a shame Monty or Carol couldn't find a back garden planted up as a meadow; they would have been welcome to show our small meadow and I think it would have been more to the point; I hope another meadow program is made aimed at small gardens;

Our new meadow; two months ago it was bare ground.

It's breathtaking to look at; I've been up there this morning tidying up and weeding at peace with the world.

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

What a strange day today. This morning whilst looking at the flowers in our front garden with Bron I thought here comes Blackie AGAIN; this time more like a very fine drizzle then Blackie decided to leave us alone for a change; at around 4 o'clock this afternoon I thought its actually not bad for November; it was so dark it felt like night was drawing in; after tea at 7 o'clock it brightened up so I went up the mountain onto the lane and raked up the debris from my weeding session earlier; just a full bin bag. As usual my little friend Soots was soon brushing against my trouser legs; this little jet black cat beams down; I never see her approach but I think she must live in the house directly across the lane from us; she loves my company and appears everytime I go into our back garden; I make a fuss of her by picking her up and cuddling her; if I have my body warmer on I've always got a small bag of cat biscuits in a pocket. Not a bad day though and no rain; brilliant.

Kind regards, Colin.

It's been cloudy all day with a gentle breeze, for me a little bit on the cool side but not enough to ware a cardi.
Colin lovely cat, in our other house i let a neighbour's cat in and found out to my expense that it had fleas, I'm a magnet to them, had to fumegate the living room.So I didn't let it in again.
