Blue Norther--weather alert!

Occasionally we get a Blue Norther coming through--a cold front that comes in with a rush of wind and a sudden and large drop in temperatures. We had one predicted to arrive on Saturday afternoon, which it did, and the temperature dropped from 76 to 23 in a matter of 10 hours.
Luckily, we had time to put the extra plastic on the chicken coop, put the heat band on their waterer, and strip the remaining vegetables from the garden. Now we are hunkered down for two days of cold.

My goodness, that's a phenomenal change! I had no idea that could happen so quickly, I've never heard of a Blue Norther before. Is it something you see often?

We don't see blue northers often, thank goodness! They are called blue northers because the clouds often turn blue (as do the people beneath them!). One or two each winter is about all the blues we get.
