Hawera is a town on the North Island of New Zealand. In Maori, the name means 'burnt place' because there was once a fire there due to a tribal war.

El Junquillo de Córdoba (Narcissus cordubensis, formerly N. jonquilla ssp. cordubensis, N. fernandesii ssp. cordubensis)
is the first* Narcissus to bloom in my garden in 2022. It is a dainty and refined little gem of brightest yellow.

* I'm not counting the Paper-whites (Narcissus papyraceus) since they started blooming in December.
