Hi,

Good job you weren't taught woodworking by my woodworking teacher alp; you certainly wouldn't consider it lucky; I didn't. I never liked sport either because I was so skinny and weak through severe asthma and to this day although I'm now quite well I dislike any sport with a passion although I now love woodworking. :)

I've never been into dressmaking though. :D:D:D

Kind regards, Colin,

when I was working in hospitals, it got around that I could cut men's hair. so any patient that had been there a while and wanted a tidy up, I was called . some said it was the best cute they ever got. I also trim up my husbands hair.

my mom kept my hair short and with bangs. later in my late teens I started growing it out. it got down to my waist. A wonderful copper red to have flowing down to my waist a real show stopper. Blessed with the color I was.

That is an appealing description. I get the impression the American viewpoint on the subject of red hair is that it is more of a rare treasure, whereas those along the Channel must see it too often to appreciate the art form.

We weren't taught woodwork at secondary school. It was for the boys. The girls were taught cooking, dressmaking and needlework, but we were all taught crafts.

Hi,

Thanks Logan. Yes it was the same at my Secondary Modern School; boys taught wood/metalworking and girls taught domestic science; it's 55 years ago I left school and I often wonder what is taught now because wood/metalworking is full of danger and a boy might scratch himself; same with domestic science a girl might prick herself with a needle whilst sewing?

Kind regards, Colin.

Yep, made my own prom dress, and an Easter outfit. later did make other items. just curtains and round tablecloths now. but as I got more busy with life, and did the math, its cheaper to buy than spend my time making certain items. And lets face it at the age now where I wear same things often, and I am into getting bags to the goodwill.

@Esther Knapicius when the schools have the exams, he makes sure that they sit in the right place, doesn't have mobile phones, get all the exam papers on the desks, make sure that they behave themselves. Escort them to the toilets and wait outside and take them back. When they've finished the exam he collects the papers.

I recall that in high school, but then again, back then we had no cell phones. So when he escorts them to the bathroom, then the rest of the class is free of him.

I just copy pasted the word from @Logan as I had not heard it before, to look up. Never know, in the UK some different stuff happens.
@Upsy Daisy thanks, now looked that up, make sense. Definition of invigilate. invigilated; invigilating. intransitive verb. : to keep watch; especially, British : to supervise students at an examination. transitive verb.

So is that a "Job Title" or just part of another job. I know in USA teachers have their position title, like the Math teacher and within their day somehow they are assigned to "baby sit" a group of students that usually is not part of their main group they teach.

That's a job title. He's not a teacher, he's employed to do that and nothing else. But put through all the checks.
