Prairie Verbena (Verbena bipinnatifida, alternatively Glandularia bipinnatifida), also known as Dakota Mock-vervain is a perennial herb in the Verbena Family (Verbenaceae), native to the southern and central United States, Mexico, and northern Central America. In horticulture various forms have been selected, and it is also one of numerous Verbena species used to develop various hybrid cultivars.
In horticulture, such hybrids and cultivars of Verbena are often more commonly available than 'wild type' species. There is a dark flowered cultivar, Verbena bipinnatifida 'Valley Purple' that is often available for various commercial growers. Other similar species of Verbena include Verbena canadensis and Verbena goodingii, among others.
