Need some help as we are just getting into garden and plants. This is a plant we have had for 8 years. We inherited when a relative passed and have no idea how to take care of it. We just put it our shower window and it seems to be surviving.
It looks like it has a swollen base that's partially covered. Is there peeling tissue there at the bottom? Are the edges of the leaves very slightly serrated? At first inspection it looks like either Ponytail Palm (Nolina recurvata) or Pregnant onion (Ornithogalum caudatum). Both like very bright light and don't like to be wet. A closer picture of the base at the soil line would help differentiate them.
Thank you for your help! I looked at some pics of the 2 you suggested it could be, and now believe it is a ponytail palm. Probably nees repotting and a little fertilizer since it has been there like that for 7+ years.
Based on how big it is compared to the pot, you could wait a couple of years to repot it. They don't need much soil to be happy. It's also easier to over-water in a pot that's bigger than it needs and Ponytail Palms are easy to over-water. Fertilizer isn't necessary, but it won't kill it if you are careful.
