Persimmon tree problems

Persimmon tree sapling doesn't look good. Anyone have any thoughts?

These are the leaves on my persimmon tree, does anyone know what could be wrong, we water it a lot.

Ah, I just noticed this thread is discussing two different trees. I will try to diagnose both of them.

The first tree looks like it may have sun scorched leaves. Was it suddenly moved or planted after growing in more shade? Persimmon (Diospyros kaki) tissues often stains black when it is damaged. Interestingly, the black wood known as ebony also comes from Diospyros spp.

The second tree is in more dire straits. If the whole tree or even a large part of it has suddenly died like this despite being watered, then a disease is at play here. Two possibilities that come to mind are Verticillium Wilt and Phytophthora root root, both are serious conditions that may likely kill the tree.

Water deeply but not daily. Also increase the time between waterings as the tree becomes more established. Overwatering and/or poor drainage will make plants more susceptible to such diseases, especially root rot.
