Amazing! A freebie from Daily Mail! Very prolific! I love to have some cross over fruit trees. Dwarf is ideal. Ever since I had had a deformed pear tree from T&M, I don't want to plant any of them in the ground, for fear of anything hard labour sawing off the dense pear wood. Also I used to have a stella cherry but the buttoms of the fruits were all split. No fun eating them.

Nice harvest to look forward to, Zenj and I'm sure you would start harvesting with the grandkids. I have one good one from Lidl, a gala, a fiesta, lord Lambourne and yet the last one was covered with white stuff when it fruited, so not a fruit at all. Funny enough, I have quite a few cucumber fruiting outside; lord knows how hot it has been and is. I'm sweating and suffering.

Glad to see your cannas flowering. Hot as it is here, my cannas were killed by the cold. I have one in a pot next to the fig. You've done very well, Zenj!

It's unfortunate that the kerning between E and R is a bit too big.

Hello its been Hot and humid here the last few days .
My mum says I have pianist looking hands, I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano as well .

Some nice pictures alp / zenji :) apple tree looking very prolific , my apple tree looks like it more of a biennial fruitier now

I haven't done much in the garden other than mow the lawn and water the pots plus the odd deadheading here and there. The heat doesn't seem to bother me that much get used to it when you're out in it all day .

Good morning - this is killing heat. It was so hot that I refused to move from my sofa. As soon as you moved, you would be sweating. It was compounded by my west facing house - all curtains drawn and my son turned it into a ghetto by clipping on all sorts of car screen, yoga mats.. I was watching the South African couple Rod and Rachel Saunders hunting gladioli with Nick Bailey and at the end of the episode, it said: In memory of Rod and Rachel Saunders. Very sad and I googled and found out they were murdered by ISIS gang a day after the filming. Loved the pink and white tulips featured in that episode.

1597294335047.png

I am surprised to see such a supple hand in your photo, Perki! You can learn the piano by following youtube. People are now giving piano away for free. Make sure you can one for free and you can have a go. You've done a lot compared with me!

We were supposed to go to eat out in Lakeside, but it was so hot that I can't be bothered to go out. In the end, we had a KFC. So much for son's birthday celebration.

The % of rain has no meaning. We never have had any rain. It's awful tht the west is getting all the heat and we have nothing but heat - the air was so hot that the petals showed their stress and it's burning a hole in my pocket. Then I have been bitten by mozzies and the itches were so unbearable. I scratched so much that they are now open wounds.

I had lovely fruits from my Reine Claude d'Oullins and Miracot. Fruits were sweet, aromatic and delicious. Wouldn't mind having Zenj's lovely dwarf apple tree though.

Half an hour of heavy rain was all I have. Very sad. I don't want sleeting, but half an hour was not enough.

This is the exact picture

Rain has been shunning us until last night 10.30 and even then it was only for half an hour. Today is exactly the same sad sob story!.

Finally, I received my Cayeux iris rhizomes. Not the best: very dry and small. It might take another 2 year for them to flower. I fenced off the area where I planted them as I have had nuisance visitors at night, with soft toy, wig, white baguette and typical calling cards everywhere. The worst is that their calling cards attract a lot of flies. Downright nuisance and they dug up my other rhizomes. I don't think I can get any of the rhizomes at these prices from UK sellers such as Claire Austin as I was fortunate enough to have stumbled on their sales. They typically fetch £10 plus. Have to say the p&p is just under £10. Very expensive. But I have a surprise cadeau.

Good morning - very grey, but the air was still humid and that's why I woke up. Have had no rain, but it's now spitting. Fine dizzle and the most important downpipe is dripping. Very disheartening. Need non stop rain for 2 days just to wet the soil.

Very poor harvest - and squirrel had the first bite

I have also sown and germinated some Thai Basil and Fennel. Love Fennel sliced and cooked. Lots of cauliflowers to harvest. Some stunning field mouse in GW last night. Like that American woman who tries to follow Beth Chatto's method. I have been to her garden years ago. Twice, one when my sister was here. I would rather die than growing the stuff she advocated, but I will bear that ethos in mind and enrich the soil. It's has been so dry here that I had to flower some dahlias. 34c 6 days in a trough and I remember walking round Powys at 38c.

Good morning, Perki and Zenj

Ah, finally! I have had a bit more rain. We had one hour during the day and I was on the point of crying. Any way, went to British GC ex Wyevale and bought some compost half price. 2 x miraclegro and 1 JI3. Saw some grapes on sale for £5 and my heart fluttered. Unfortunately, they have only Uva Nero which is more for wine. They have now improved their bit and have now a huge marquee housing garden furniture which will bring them a high profit margin. It's nice to see. Suffice to say, they house the seeds in the marquee and they are not reduced. :banghead:

Went to Ongar Britgc and there the grapes were reduced to £10! Couldn't find the one I love - a white one with almond shaped grapes and they were sweet. So come home empty-handed.

£2 alstroemeria Summer series. Unfortunately, seedless!

Already it's mid August and the dahlias seem to be so slow. Yesterday, had cauliflower and sweetcorns for dinner. How do the squirrel manage to find out, without fail, the fleshiest and sweetest sweetcorns to gnaw at? Very annoyed. I thought squirrels and foxes were problems for country folks, not in east London!

'Storm Kyle' could usher in autumnal gales THIS WEEK after flash floods damaged buildings and shut roads across southeast England with six inches of rain in two days ...

Flash floods everywhere, and for the first time, I heard thunder rumble yesterday at Sainsburys. 10 minutes it pelted down and then there was nothing. Most of the water butts are nearly full. Lots of transferring. Hopefully, I will have water to water all my pots.

We went to this place which my son said there would be big ponds - an indoor pond. In the end, there were only 2 men sellings flowers and they told me that the council wouldn't let it open. Very sad. A Greek (??) bought 2 cannas or one for £25. Good going!

Got a bit done at weekend, Saturday trimmed the beech hedge and trimmed top of a laurel I use for a wind break for the GHosue. Mowed the lawn , dead heading / feeding . And Sunday I sowed seeds wallflowers - primrose - echiums wildpretti - rudbeckia indian summer and others , also took quite a lot of cutting of salvia caradonna - heleniums - agastache hopefully they take .

I think the birds are humming birds , the do pollinate some plants like petunia exserta. I have rudbeckia herbstone it not quite opened yet , I had it planted with salvia amstad last year.

I, too, took a lot of cuttings of salvia Amistad. Need to do it when the plants are full of water and all my water butts are now full. A bit of Salvia Dyson's Joy, Black on Blue. Planted out some Early Sahin cuttings. 6 cuttings altogether. A bit late. Need to take more cuttings today. Woke up 2am. Very annoying.

Talking about heat, 54c in the States. Gee! That's shocking! Not very nice! That's pure hell!

The heat has brought one unpleasant fly into the house! Very annoying and unpleasant intruder! Can't live in peace as long as it's in the house.

Yesterday was especially humid. I separated quite a few marginal irises yesterday. I need to have a pond the size of Lake Windermere to display them! LOL!
