How many tomatoes do you get a season?

I have grown tomatoes for many, many years and I have to say that 2000 from six plants really doesn't fly. If its cherry tomatoes then I might by it but with regular sized tomatoes I think that is really not possible.

Mulch them heavily to prevent them from drying out

Good idea, but also drop off the watering slightly.
By doing both, your tomatoes get continuous access to water, but at a lower level, and this should help.

Depends one what kind you grow I suppose, 2000 tomatoes seems almost unbelievable unless you were growing sweet 100s, I think there may be a way to get 100 from my three plants I currently have being Heirloom beefs.

30 beef type per plant is excellent. I didn't do that well this year. Maybe if this drought ever ends.....................................
