I'm pleased to announce a new information feature added by @Foolish Gardener...your "garden square footage". This info should add to the quality of our discussions somewhat like the info "location". Of course, it is optional for each member to provide, but I would like to encourage folks to do so. It is very easy to add, just click as indicated below:

Front Page > Click on User Name at top of page > Click on Account Details > Scroll down that page > Enter data in Garden Square Footage > Click on "Save" to add that data to the User's account

Whatever info you wish to convey to your fellow members.

The intent was to aid informed discussions...such as we often have responding to gardening inquires. Provide pertinent info automatically which can help make a discussion response better. Much like the "location" info slot you see displayed.

I like to know, when answering a gardening inquiry, how much "area" are we dealing with. It makes my response and presumably everyone's response that much better.

I also find myself wondering what other members utilize in terms of space especially as we get into discussions on specific topics.

It is totally optional. Ignore if you wish...but it is info that would help us each understand where folks are coming from, IMO. Just trying to help. 🤠

I'm on 4 acres, and I garden in one way or another allover my property, that's why I asked.
..off subject, I can't seem to find the option to remove the "full Access Member" below my name, it says it can be removed if specified but where do you specify it?

I understand and do appreciate your comments @Gemma

I live on 235 acres most all of which is "gardened" in some sense. Growing grass(ranching) on a large part is a form of "gardening"...growing commercial timber on another part is also a form of "gardening".

For my entry in that slot, I provided my veggie gardening sq. ft. as I feel that is most meaningful, informative to other members here.

p.s. I'm not sure how to delete that banner...perhaps it just goes away after some number of posts. For example, it does not show up in my info box...or others above 500 posts?

Not in meters like most of the world uses nowadays then? :)
Figured someone would object.

@Oliver Buckle , you recently wrote:

Our garden is about sixty foot wide by a hundred and ten long, and a typical reaction is "What a lovely big garden".

It was in that exchange I confirmed the idea for adding that info to the info box. I've always felt that would be helpful info to have in discussions and responding to inquiries.

I apologize to all and did not intend to slight the metrics world in any way. Maybe we can accommodate that...but I still think the info would be helpful to discussions and I'm just trying to be helpful.

I did add a 'smiley', a bit tongue in cheek, and of course I use imperial measures, I'm 81 years old and grew up with them. The missus has a go at me every so often when I say something like "My God, seventy five pence, that's fifteen shillings!" :)

Trouble is the kids don't work in "chains" and "poles" and I like to think I try to communicate with them not confuse them! Then it come to the rest of the family where the phrase "okay in your money that's...." and that can be £ , lb and oz or ' "... Pound can be a bit tricky like four candles! I know I babble

22 yards one chain. 10 chains one furlong. 8 furlongs one mile. Four poles make a chain. Funny things you remember from school 60 years ago. The number in a bakers dozen would really confuse kids today. None of this metric rubbish for me thank you.

The new field for garden size is available in your profiles. There is a note there requesting that you identify by the measurement standard you are using, either sq. ft. or sq. m.

I am working on how we can add that field to the data that is shown under your avatar and user name that displays with each new post and thread you add on the forum.

Seeing your profile and adding your garden size data is a simple task.

1. Click on your User Name at the top of any page here. A popup will appear showing Your Account data.
2. Scroll down to Account Details and click on that.
3. Your full Account Details information will pop up. (Don't worry...no one can view or edit any of your data).
4. Scroll down just past "Country" and you'll see a blank titled "Garden Square Footage". Enter your data, then click on the "Save" icon.
