Hello, new gardener here!

Hello! My garden consists of an assortment of potted plants on the balcony, and I care about them a lot but don't exactly know what I'm doing. Most of my understanding of plants comes from Peter Wohlleben's The Hidden Life of Trees, which is a cool book I recommend to everyone, though it is not really a gardening guide at all. Also I have been away at college and my Mom doesn't exactly have a green thumb (she insists that the plants miss me, I think actually she just doesn't remember to water them). So I am hoping you all can help me take care of my leafy friends! Oh yes, also I'm in SoCal, so endless warm weather, not many visits from the rain, and unfortunately no yard.
