This is a powerful and nutritious grass for juicing, with most vitamins and a host of nutrients. It contains 70% chlorophyll, which is detoxifying and chemically close to the composition of blood, and gives an energy boost because of the direct contact with sunlight.

A glass jar is filled with filtered water, and organic wheat grain is soaked in it for 12 hours in a cool place out of direct contact with sunlight.

I do best with sprouting by putting a cloth over the jar, filling it with water daily, and then draining it off. Just water tends to go off, I think they need the air as well as the moisture.

This jar has a 'filter' lid with holes so that it can be drained and air can enter.

12 hours later, the seeds have absorbed the water, expanded in size and can germinate

The jar is rinsed and drained 2-3 times until the water runs clear, and the seeds begin to germinate.

At the next rinse and drain, the seeds have roots and grass growing.

The roots can easily embed themselves into the soil at this size, so they are ready to be planted.

The tray, which is about two inches deep, is filled with compost which is a mixture of soil, coconut husks (coir) and other minerals. It is then moistened using a spray bottle.

The sprouted wheat grains are spread on top of the compost.

The seeds are then covered with another tray (without holes), so that light does not enter and interfere with the germination.

It is kept at a dry place at room temperature, out of direct contact with sunlight.

The roots of the grains have entered the soil and are absorbing nutrients, the next day. The grass has grown longer, and is pointing upwards.

24 hours later, the grass appears to have started to photosynthesise. This means that the chlorophyll is developing.

The light contact is causing a deeper green colour because of the photosynthesis.

They grow a few centimetres every day as they are kept at about room temperature.
