I was cleaning up the garden a few weeks ago and found this bamboo growing in between some old slabs behind my shed.

I have never planted bamboo in my garden so I can only assume one of my neighbours has some growing in theirs.

Unfortunately I had to dig it up but I'll find somewhere to put it as it's quite nice and has already started to send up new shoots since I potted it.

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me identify what species it is.

This is not a bamboo (Bambusoideae genera), nor is it a true rush (Juncus).
This is Equisetum hyemale, commonly known as Scouring-rush. It is actually a non-seed plant.
The Scouring-rushes and Horsetails in the genus Equisetum are close relatives of the whisk-ferns and 'true' ferns.
