Whatever it is we have it here in North Carolina too. When it first sprouts the leaves are so intricate that you think it must be important. Sadly the older it gets the uglier it gets.

The plant shown in the OP is Golden Smoke (Corydalis aurea ssp. aurea), also known as Scrambled Eggs or Golden Corydalis. This petite annual or biennial herb, in the Poppy Family (Papaveraceae), is native to much of North America, from Alaska and northern Canada south to northern Mexico.
