My Chinese Lantern has some leaves with white stripes on them. What could it be from and what's the best cure?

These are the trails made by leafminer caterpillars. The larval stage on many small moths (microlepidoptera). Even though the effect may appear unsightly or intriguing, depending on one's point of view, it is unlikely to do serious harm to your Flowering Abutilon or Chinese Lantern (Callianthe cv., formerly Abutilon cv.). I would treat it more as a biological curiosity than a threat. You could try using a product containing Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.), but it might not be that effective, as the leafminers are mostly inside the leaf, where the bacteria can not usually reach.
