The Nicotiana flower was named after Jean Nicot, a 16th century French man who sent dried leaves and seeds to the mother of the Queen of France.

Alstroemeria was named after the Swedish botanist Baron Klas von Alstroem. He collected seeds on a trip to Spain in 1753, among which were seeds of the South American flower Alstroemeria.

The very obscure fir-like genus, Keteleeria, was named in honor of French nurseryman Jean Baptiste Keteleer, who lived from 1813-1903.
