The most remarkable, the resurrection fern (Pleopeltis polypodioides) is an epiphyte, meaning it grows on other plants—especially live oaks here.

Not a true fern, the plumosa fern (Asparagus setaceus) looks like a true fern but is actually part of the asparagus family.

I've never planted ferns here. There's too many growing in the countryside and I think of them as weeds.

One of the most interesting veggie flowers to me is the Okra—large, hibiscus‑like, and short‑lived. The okra plant (Abelmoschus esculentus) produces showy, tropical-looking flowers that last only one day. By sundown today this one will wilt, and a tiny okra pod will begin forming.
