The raw juice is a violent purgative

It's ok fermented but gives you a hell of a hangover.

English Elderberries are used in making Port :)

:)Love your toilet guy @zigs I think the elderberries we picked on the eastern slopes of the Cascade mountains in Washington state must have been a different species. There was nothing violent about them. We would wash them and juice them and it was heavenly with no unfortunate results at all. We liked the juice so well, we never bothered to make wine.

Not a great day for pics, but I have several of these starting to bloom at 4 to 5 ft height. I'll try to get better pics tomorrow so I can get a better id on them. I have similar flowers in red and yellow and white, although they all have a different stalk. This one grows like a banana pushing leaves up through the center.
