Last year I tried growing three japanese maple seedlings I bought on line. At first, they grew great, really thrived. Then the heat of summer hit and two of them fried to death. But one survived and this year it came right back to life and sprouted some fresh leaves very quickly. Everything seemed to be going well. But today I took a close look at it and saw this on its leaves. What is going on?

Its been cold and gloomy all spring, and its only the start of May. So I don't think this one is cooking from summer heat. Its also in a position where it doesn't get sun all day anymore. Its in the shade in the afternoon.

So what is this? Can anyone tell just by looking?
I actually want three of these, so I'll have to replaced the two that are definitely dead, but I was hoping I could at least plant this one early in the fall :/

Over watering, too much sun, too large a pot with not enough drainage which holds water causing stress, iron deficiency in the soil. These are a few reasons for leaves turning yellow. Add perlite or grit to the soil to help drainage plus make drainage holes at the bottom of the pots if there are none and keep pots slightly of the ground to help drainage.

Maybe a mild late frost would get the tips like that, bloodgood are susceptible to that and at least in this part of the country false spring was especially convincing, i even had garlic get burned on the tips

it looks like it isn't a problem anymore

I would plant it now to establish it in the rainy season and before winter

I can't chicken wire EVERYTHING. I don't have enough chicken wire. When I see the rabbits, they tend to die suddenly of lead poisoning. But they're sneaky ****ers and I of course can't catch them all.
