I’ve got flowers! The hyacinth is starting to bloom despite having been moved, and I’ve got more daffodils blooming. I found another big cluster of tiger lilies that I don’t recall being in that area, I’ll be giving bags of them away! On my walk around the garden, I’ve got even more bulbs popping up. I think I’ll have to give it till at least April before I know they are all up before I can solerize that area.

I’ve been too busy to keep up lately and had to start a journal. Been planting kale, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, and onions like a madman. Have a dozen tomatoes up and getting ready to start bell peppers. This was yesterday. Those are rice hulls littered all over manure/top soil.

I moved my garden frames to west of the pond. Found another pot or two worth of bulbs popping up. I still need to finish the raised bed frames, put containers under to catch the drainage water, make my filter for the pond, and spike my hose for the drip irrigation I have planned. Then comes soil, plants, and seeing if they survive when I’m gone! I really need to figure out how to set up automatic return of the water. May have an idea on that, but it would require much more work, parts, and another pump.

Makes me glad I’m where I am. It was freezing, literally, this morning, slow to warm up, but should see 60s later. My lazy butt is ready for a nap. I’ll go out and work on stuff later!

The frames for the raised beds. I’ll put a base in about 1’-18” from the top, fill with soil on the 4 smaller ones, add a drain valve about 2” from the bottom, add hose for excess water to drain into a catch bin. Drip irrigation from the pond/ pool. The bigger bin I’ll try aquaponics, same idea, only with some kind of media, not sure what kind yet, and a steadier heavier flow of water. I’ll test various plants to see what doeswell in the aquaponics. I’ve heard herbs and leafy greens do well. I’ll try cucumbers and some melons. In my other 4 bins, I’ll do tomatoes, corn, green beans, carrots, radishes, squash and zucchini. The guys will eat all of that except the squash and zucchini, so I’ll only do one each of those. That’ll be enough for me. The leafy greens if they do well, are for mostly me. The guys tend to be more meat and potatoes. I ought to do a bin of potatoes, fill with 1’ dirt, plant, then add straw/ compost till it’s full.

I only went into Aldi yesterday for some kitchen rolls, but also came out with these.
Today, I planted some of them along the long narrow bed next to the garage, where they'll get plenty of sun and squeezed the rest of them in "here and there."
