I have a brand new shoot coming from the dirt of my umbrella tree and was wondering if anyone has ever seen a root that looked like a bulb? I pulled it out of the dirt because I didn't want any new shoots. It's hard to the touch. I ended up putting it back in the dirt has anyone ever come across this before?

It is normally outside in the summer yep! So you think the root wrapped around the nut? That's very possible because that's exactly what it looks like!

Does your plant live outside in the Summer? I think a squirrel or jay planted a nut for you. Definitely not part of the Schefflera.
Yes. First thing that hit my mind was a black walnut seedling but the nut looks too smooth to be that. I've replanted black walnut seedlings that come up in the Spring in my beds that the squirrels forget about.
