Out of nowhere I got a lot (maybe 50) of small (about 3/16) brown beetles with black spots crawling all over my very young ginger gold apple (2-3 years old) and 1 year old cherry (both planted from rootstock). I've never seen these before. They crawling all over, but I don't see any real damage yet. I snapped a picture with my macro lens (these things are really small) and searched all over internet. They look exactly like Strawberry Rootworm beetles, but from what I read these shouldn't be attacking trees, and I don't even grow strawberries, although I did last year...
I'm very confused and worried. Are these really Strawberry Rootworm beetles, and will they damage my trees?
I'm in Warwick, NY (orange county).
