We have a Strawflower cactus. It seems to small for the pot it is in. I have no experience what so ever with cacti.

Is there any special soil needed? I would assume so considering they are desert plants. Recommendations?

If strawflower cactus is the desert kind of cactus instead of the tropical kind, I would get the cactus soil mix and water infrequently.

Repotting is the same as any plant, flip the pot upside-down while you hold the top layer of soil, and get the whole plant with the soil out. If needed, you can tease the soil a little to free the roots, and replant it the bigger pot. Water afterwords to settle the roots and prevent plant shock.

to help with an idea to keep from getting spines in your skin because gloves don't always help..... wrap the cactus with paper from a brown paper bag and then also use gloves. :)
