Propagating Magnolia

Would it be possible to root magnolia via hardwood cuttings? I have only seen them taken from semi ripe or soft wood.

I have bent down a branch from what was supposed to be Jane, but I think was Susan, and buried it successfully. I have also seen someone else do air layering, something I have never managed successfully. Both involved pretty hard wood. There is a way of finding out if you have access to them nothing ventured ...
