Please help identify this plant

We moved into a house last fall with lots of overgrown landscaping. I trimmed this way back last fall and it didn't bloom this spring/summer. Can someone please identify it? I thought it might be a hydrangea? Thank you.

It looks like Hydrangea quercifolia.
By trimming it you have removed all the flower buds for the year.
It is a nice shrub and will go a beautiful colour in the autumn/fall.
