Mature apricot tree dying on one side

We bought a house last year with a mature apricot tree that looked old but had stunning lush growth. This year one side of the tree looks like it’s struggling, the leaves and buds are curling up and dying. I’ve tried removing some of the dead branches but don’t want to cut off the whole side of it. Any ideas on what do?
