It may have fertilizer burn. How much and what kind of fertilizer did she use. It could also be sun scald, from living in a protected place. I would put it in a place where it gets morning sun and filtered shade until it regains its health. I think it will come back because the leaves fell off and did not stay on the tree. Citrus does not like a lot of fertilizer either. Its also possible but not probable that water was on the leaves during the hot afternoon sun and it burned them.

Thank you for the advice!! She didn't know what type/how much fertilizer she was supposed to use.

She ended up grabbing two bags of fertilzer and mixing them with potting mix.
The bags were "Gold Dust" 5-10-5 and "Citrius food" 14-7-7.

Also, if it is fertilzer burn. How should I fix it?
Thank you again for all the help!!

With a nitrogen content of 14 it would be very easy to over fertilize. The best way to get rid of excess fertilizer is to purge the soil, that is run water over it and wash it out. What I would do is get a larger pot and repot the tree. That container is too small. I would take the tree out of the pot it is in and I would wash away ALL of the soil from the roots and then I would repot with fresh potting mix. I would not fertilize for at least a month and when you do fertilize follow the directions. I would not use both fertilizers, just one of them.
