ID for small tree, serrated leaf edges. Weed?

This little guy is in two separate areas of a recently discovered/uncovered wooded flower bed. The leaves remind me of mint leaves. *obviously not a mint! lol) One is 3 ft. and the other, about four. Ideas? Suggestions? To remove or not?

Looks like a Birch tree.

I think it's Beech, the leaves look longer to me than Birch.

Not got beech in there yet, not in leaf here yet, but i'll add it when I find it.

My Beech tree still looks dead. The Sycamores are well under way though.
