I’m planting cantaloupe and watermelon for the first time, and haven’t been able to find an answer online with all the measurements—how tall, long, wide, and far apart each hill should be? For watermelon and cantaloupe.

This is what I do:
1) Make hills at the end of garden rows about 2 ft apart with each hill about 12 inches in diameter and about 6 inches high. I like to add manure compost mixed in with the dirt in the mound.
2) Seed at 6 or 7 seeds per hill.
4) Thin plantings to about 4 plants per hill removing the weakest.
3) Let the vines run both back into the garden and wherever space is available.

To minimize cross pollination, I generally have watermelon hills on the opposite end of the garden from cantaloupe.

One word of caution, melons require warm conditions, generally temps above 70 deg. F to grow. Good growing!
