Hello, I am in the process of building an app that combines sun/shade projections, geography, weather patterns/history, and probable soil ph levels to recommend ideal plants for specific zones of a gardener's yard, diagnose potential problems with specific plants, and suggest care based on what is in someone's yard. The goal is to aid gardener's with an encyclopedia of their own plantings that is easily accessible at any time/any place. I am engaging multiple forums for suggestions on what is missing in the intersection of gardening and technology. I encourage any feedback on what would help you individually, or what would make you interested in an application I am describing. Also, anyone interested, would you be kind enough to answer the following questions:

1. Would you be willing to engage with an app to help your yearly gardening tasks?
2. What would make the app valuable enough that you would be willing to spend $5-$10 a month for the information given that there would be a free, limited version.
3. What information do you value most when making gardening decisions?
4. How many people can you think of that would be interested in a product like this?
5. If you had 1 gardening tip to share with the world, what would it be?

I am genuinely thankful for any engagement with this post - if there is none - thank you for at least spending the time to read about this exciting new venture.

While there is no exact, real-time count of every gardening app available across all app stores, there are hundreds, likely over a thousand covering specialized niches like plant identification, design, and care. AI

1. Would you be willing to engage with an app to help your yearly gardening tasks?
Yes, and do use free AI.
2. What would make the app valuable enough that you would be willing to spend $5-$10 a month for the information given that there would be a free, limited version.
No, nothing.

3. What information do you value most when making gardening decisions?
Plant characteristics.

4. How many people can you think of that would be interested in a product like this?
Not many since free AI does it.

5. If you had 1 gardening tip to share with the world, what would it be?
Send me $10 a month for a tip. 🤠

This actually sounds far more useful than most gardening apps I’ve seen because you’re focusing on the real-world conditions of a specific yard instead of just generic plant advice. The sun/shade mapping combined with local weather history and soil data could save people a huge amount of trial and error.

Yes, definitely- especially for tracking planting dates, watering schedules, frost warnings, and figuring out why something is struggling.
For me, the paid version would need to feel personalized and predictive rather than just informational. Things like:
“This spot gets too hot for this hydrangea in July”
disease/pest prediction based on recent weather
watering suggestions based on rainfall and soil
alerts before frost/heat stress
visual yard mapping with plant placement recommendations
The most valuable information is honestly:
mature plant size
actual sunlight requirements in real conditions
water needs
soil drainage
local climate compatibility
pest/disease susceptibility

I can think of quite a few people honestly. Gardening has exploded in popularity again and many beginners feel overwhelmed. An app that reduces plant deaths would probably do very well.

My gardening tip: focus on improving soil first. Healthy soil solves more problems than most fertilizers or sprays ever will.
