eggplants, ants, dots on leaves

I have lots of tiny black dots on the leaves of my eggplants. They are mainly black, gray, or dark brown in color. There are also lots of ants on them. I've read that ants might be harvesting aphids on eggplants and I should squish them. From the pictures, can any expert on eggplants tell me if those are really aphids?

Can't tell what it is. The picture is out of focus at magnification and taken from too great a distance to see without.
