Depending on the variety of banana it takes between 10 and 18 months to start producing fruit. Fertilizing is very important and should be done every month for best production.

It takes me, here in NE Florida, at least two years before I see fruit, but the banana plants do grow very quickly. One thing I do is heavily mulch the area, since they're very heavy feeders and they like a lot of potassium, so I collect people's yard waste, including their chopped down banana plants/leaves and mulch it into the soil.

I usually average 2 banana bunches per year.
