I have a 8 ft x 4ft raised bed at the end of my drive. It's not that deep - it sits on old hardcore driveway. It's 2 years old now so the hardcore has started to build a bit of soil life. When I built it I put in about 6 inches of compost and added another 3 inches or so last spring.
Last Autumn I emptied 3 full wheelbarrows of farmyard manure onto it - planning on redistributing it. I forgot all about it and now it's all broken down nicely and ready for planting.
What will appreciate this rich (albeit not deep) soil? Ideally flowers, but will consider veg too.
