I've always grown seedlings in plug trays and planted them out in the spring. I grow a lot of hardy annuals that readily self seed, but in the past I've always had to eradicate all the 'volunteer' seedlings in spring because I don't know which are weeds!!

So - if anyone allows plants to self-seed.....how do you manage things and prevent it turning into a complete mess?

Also, assuming you add compost to your beds over winter - surely this stops little seeds from growing?

Any tips and ideas for managing self seeding flowers and veg greatly appreciated.

Once you have become accustomed enough to know what is what a hoe is good, you can eradicate the weeds and in between seedlings so you can keep the hoe going between them and give them room to grow.
