Will seeds from annuals grow the same year they're harvested?

I have some annuals, not sure which variety, which I planted early this year and have already completed their life cycle. I'm keeping the seeds and I'm wondering, will those seeds grow this year? Or do they generally need to wait until the beginning of the following year?

It all depends on the seed. Some seeds require stratification (chilling) others don't.
