When to plant seeds 45-55 degrees?

Hi guys!

Technically we’re past the last frost date but the weather this week looks brisk. The lowest day is predicted to be 49/35, the highest 58/44. Should I plant seeds or wait for more warmth? It seems likely to be partly sunny overall.

Depends on the type of seed...cool season veggies maybe will germinate; warm season veggies probably will not germinate.

Soil temperatures are as important as ambient temperatures when planting seeds. The cooler the soil the longer it takes to germinate. If seeds stay in moist cool soil too long they will rot. The optimum soil temps for most vegetable seeds is around 65F+.

What I would do: Lettuce yes, corn wait, carrots yes, melons definitely wait, beans wait, peas...if sweet peas yes, if field peas wait.

This. Unless by melons you mean canteloupe then, yes

I’ve been going by the same but not as cool.

Next week is to be between 40F and 65F.

I have early stuff out but still waiting on warm season stuff.

Canteloupe are closely related to cucumbers and have similar requirements. They don't like the heat but with enough water they do okay.

You basically can't grow a watermelon till it's hot
