Scanning tribute band videos on another board reminded me of this.

This tribute band has been going for a couple of decades.

Twenty years ago, they performed at my son-in law's 30th birthday party.
At the time, his brother-in-law played drums for them. But left a few years later to concentrate on his "proper job." Running wine appreciation seminars for big businesses.
The party was held in a huge marquee, (not in the picture that I took), in the grounds of this art deco house, which at the time was being used as a nursing home for elderly people. Our son-in-law's father was the on-call doctor, so was able to arrange the free loan of the gardens.

The house was built for Woolf Barnato.

It was designed by Robert Lutyens, son of a more famous father.

Barnato's daughter, Diana Barnato-Walker, spent her childhood there.

Flicking across channels there was an old top of the pops programme and this was on.

I was aware of the record at the time, though it wasn't my kind of music.
I'm only mentioning it because I looked her up on Wiki and was surprised to learn that she's now 63.

How time flies!

I was never really interested in George Michael, but many of his songs were used in the film "Last Christmas" which I recorded off the TV and kept and I thought they were an excellent choice for this film.
This final scene could bring a tear to your eye.

I liked her music but never bought any singles.

Never bought any of Wham but when he went solo he's voice matured and when I listen he was so good.

Not music but a related topic.

I subscribe to a number of audio and music forums. Some subscribers spend thousands on audio equipment, records, CDs and storage units for the latter. Again some have very expensive looking storage racks and cabinets for thousands of records and CDs..
The question "show us your record storage" came up again today.

This always gives me the opportunity to post a photo of the "retro" record rack for surplus 45s in our tea-house.

Still watching tennis switching between Queens and Birmingham.

We're between the semi-finals and final at the Birmingham Rothesay Classic, the spectators are being entertained by a young woman singing to a backing track. She's just sung two Carole King songs. She's not bad and very brave, but she's shouting a lot between songs.

"It's just like the half-time show at the Superbowl."
