Still haven't worked out how to post pictures, but here are some of Hastings country park and Bodiam castle, both quite close.

Hmm, seems that some other castles have crept in there, and you will need to click on 'Photos' for the country park ones.

I was excited to see this thread and all the different pics. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from gardening and see/share other things.. that's what general chat is for on forums, side topics. The world, people, buildings and history, science, space, it's all epic to me when I see beautiful things in pictures that I would otherwise never get to see.

For 24 years I lived on the Isle of Man and was back there recently visiting my elder daughter and family. The island is sandwiched between northern England and Ireland in the Irish Sea.

The Manx flag is a triskelion, officially adopted in 1932.

The clock, still in working order was presented by Queen Elizabeth I.

Looks fantastic Sheal

Love the clock :)

The stonework behind it looks like blue lias limestone. I thought the Island was all granite.

On a clear day here you can just make out the wind turbines on the North sea...

Sorry Zigs, I don't know what type of stone it is but I'm sure you could find out. :) Unlike Aberdeen (the granite city) the island has a mixture of stone. A house I owned there had sandstone corners called quorns or querns - I can't remember exactly.

Yes, I can see the turbines - and the pesky seagulls. :D

I remembered earlier. Both of the above are wrong - they are quoins. :)
Yes, a quern is a small hand mill for grinding flour. I remember reading about an excavation where they found sandstone querns and all the skeletons had worn flat back teeth from sand in the flour.

Thanks Oliver. I did look them up knowing that my choices were wrong and then 'quoin' came to me eventually.
