How do keep those rows weed free?

MOD

Don't water walk area between rows weed seeds don't grow. Boards around beds are levees to hold in water. I have no raised beds. Tomatoes & Peppers have soil pushed up in an irrigation row like a levee both sides of the plants. Fill the levees with water not the walk areas. Once a week I look for weeds to kill with the hoe or rake. It took me 50 years to learn how to NOT grow a garden. Look at the photo. See soil in 2 parallel rows to hold water for the tomato row. If we get too much rain soil is washed away then I use a rake to push soil up like a levee again. 2 parallel levees hold in water. I do the same thing for, peppers, melons, herbs, celery, beans, corn, etc.

Potatoes are 3 rows of seed potatoes in a bed with levee. Left of potatoes are 7 rows of onions & garlic in a bed. Left of onions are 7 rows of strawberries in a bed.

Last picture see how every row has 2 soil levees to hold in water for that row. 20 watermelons & cantaloupe have a levee to hold in water & 4 ft of space both sides for vines to grow. Rake melons in a clock wise circle when vines get too long cut off the ends.

4 rows of G-90 sweet corn on the far left side are not planted yet.

I can remove the boards at both ends of the beds to till soil in the beds. I usually fill beds with dry dead tree leaves then till them into the soil with fertilizer. Each plant has its own fertilizer that it likes best.

We get ro much rain for that to work here. Super props for figuring out it to your environment. Works great for you. What we learn over the years. I tend to learn the hard way. Usually learn how not to do things but always improve over time. Once in a while I get it right.

I chipped my entire garden to prevent weeds and grass from growing.
