I have a south facing windowsill which I'd like to put a fragrant flowered potted plant on which take direct unfiltered sunlight, I have some gardenias and hoyas but they need filtered light so is there something which I could grow there instead I have some succulents on it now but would rather something which had a nice scent

There are numerous fragrant flowers you could grow in a sunny window, but as you mentioned long-blooming, why don't you try an orchids. Their care is not difficult, though it does differ somewhat from many other houseplants, especially with regards to planting media and repotting. Mnay orchids will grow and flower best in full sun as long as proper watering and fertilizing are not neglected.
