Spots on tomato plants and pepper plants yellowing

hi all, my tomatoe plant is showing a dark spot on its stalk. I'm new to gardening, is this normal (please see attached pic). Additionally, I have sweet peppers that have their leaves turning yellow and are getting eaten by a bug (I think). I've attached a pic. Does anyone have advice on how to get these types of plants healthy again? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

That is slug or snail damage on the pepper.

Tomatoes are vulnerable to lots of things, if it is growing away,wouldn't worry to much.
