Hello. I recently moved into my “new” house and I am wondering what type of tree this is and if I should be concerned with it potentially ruining my foundation. It is approximately 1-2 ft from my foundation.
thank you
Jane

That house appears to be much older than that tree. If it is, nothing to worry about. Underneath the slab there is very little oxygen or water and roots must have adequate oxygen and water or they just don't grow. However, you should worry about the top of the tree. It can and eventually will damage you house. No tree should be planted this close to a house. I would remove the tree.

I would say 'Yes'. I am not sure what it is, possibly hornbeam? I am not generally in favour of losing trees, but it is as tall as your house, it will have a root system that goes under your house, and it will fill your gutters with leaves in autumn. It won't get any smaller, it will get bigger, the problem will get worse and harder to solve. I bet you will be surprised how much extra light you get.
