Propagating succulents in autumn/winter?

I've got a nice healthy echeveria and a few unused pots. I've read about the process if propagating echeveria from petals, and I'd like to try it out. Will the change of season and lower light conditions be too stressful on a budding succulent?

I'm in Chicago.
