I gave my wife a little pot with tulips (just greens, no buds) in it that I found in the Aldi Aisle-O-Stuff. They grew really fast and bloomed. Now the blooms are dead. I tried to find out if, should we plant the bulbs outdoors, if they will bloom again or if they are dead for life.

Studying on line gave all kinds of answers ranging from that they will re-bloom this year if planted, to they will bloom next year to throw the bulbs away. I also read to cut the green off down to the bulb when planting to leave the green, but cut off the spent flowers. And, leave the spent flowers.

What do you guys think I can do with these tulips?

Thanks!
Paul

I just plant them outside as they are.
You can also put them in pots outside if deer are a problem. Put the pots on a patio or where the deer cant reach them.
I have to spray mine to keep the deer off them while they are growing and blooming.

With tulips and daffodils they only flower once a year in my experience then dead head them when the flower dies to prevent seed pods which takes the energy out the bulb. Then you have two options either keep then in situ or dig up the bulbs and place them in a cool place like a shed or garage and replant them in late autumn (the fall). Being lazy I just leave them where they are.

Rabbits like em too
I was spraying daily for awhile with deer and rabbit fence or whatever its called. Its the best results I've had so far. I have tulips in 3 areas but also have to spray a few other plants. If I dont do it often they will get eaten.

I just let them grow until they die back. When they ugly up I clean them up. Same as all my bulbs.

I like simple.

Thank you Sluggy. Im still adding tulips and hyacinth when I buy my wife flowers like Paul does. Sometimes it takes a couple years for those bulbs to flower after planting or being moved but it keeps getting better.
