Peony problem

I have a 20-year old peony. It’s always been beautiful, and bloomed profusely. For the last two years, it grows only about four inches tall, with one or two tall stems. This year it has one normal-sized stem with a bud at the top. The rest of the stems are four inches tall, and the the plant has stopped growing again. I have other peonies, and they are all growing normally. There is another peony growing about two feet from the crazy one, and is the same age. It is doing fine. Any ideas?

I believe that 20 years is about the right life expectancy of a peony. Maybe its time is up (I know the feeling)

Thank you for answering; I was afraid that was the problem. It’s always been so beautiful. One year I counted over 100 blooms on that plant at one time.

Maybe you should go out and buy yourself a lovely new one. That will cheer you up.....although,maybe as you have another oldie there - you should buy TWO.....at least.

I definitely will replace it. I have four more in other beds, so I don’t really NEED more peonies, but this one was such a pretty shade of pink; I miss it

I think you will be much happier if you replace it. Without that pretty shade of pink you will only mope. I am giving you a prescription for a replacement..... you will be much happier then
