Hello!
A question for you.
About cutting peony poppys for a vase
First one cut is still looking awesome 10 days later,
Next 40 cut all wilted within a few hours
All were treated with the hot water trick for 10 seconds, and placed into clean vases of water
Here's hoping someone can shed light into this disappointment

Hello, and welcome to the Forums.

You seem to have experience both unlikely extremes of using Bread-seed Poppy as a cut flower. Wilting in a few hours is disappointing, but lasting for ten days is amazing. Usually two or three days is what is expected.

For cut flowers, harvest your poppies just before bud break. In the morning when they are most turgid would be best. As soon a possible, dip the cut end in boil water, or singe with an open flame. Keep them in cool temperatures and indirect light until ready to arrange.

Peony-flowered Poppies (Papaver somniferum var. paeoniflorum) are double-flowered cultivars of the Bread-seed or Opium Poppy.

Thank You
Well each flower only lasted a couple of days, the pods are lovely as well, ike stem had a dozen buds which a all opened splendidly
I had no idea this was the opium poppy, hope I don't get high handling them
