I planted 'Belstar Hybrid' Broccoli this year and they are just starting to set good heads now. I am relatively new to broccoli, but the coloring on this head seems off. It was a pale yellow green for the longest time, now it is turning dark purple to almost red. Is this normal? Did I pick too late, or not did I not wait late enough? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

Brocolli is a cool weather mild sunshine plant. There is a chemical in broccoli which protects the broccoli and is released in climatic conditions that are not favorable to the plant. This chemical is what is causing the purpling. Your brocolli will still be good to eat. You probably planted too early.
